We spent 2 blocks of time in this Community woodland having both the felling and extraction to do. It was all soft woods coming out, clearing some glades in order to encourage some natural re-generation and also to open the light up around some aged Beech trees that marked an ancient farm track that used to run across the hillside. The idea is that in time and when grant funding is available the track will be opened up completely and more hill side will be cleared. They have achieved a lot already entirely through voluntary labour with new plantations of indigenous trees now growing and other areas already cleared. Itís a really lovely example of a community working together. All the timber came out pole length and was stacked in the hope they could sell it at a later date either as pit props, still needed in a small quantity in South Wales or converted to sell as firewood.
